A. First of all, some already knew it was Patroclos fighting for Myrmidons and was the one wearing the armour of the great Achilles, especially, the Trojans in which Patroclos have killed many. There is a certain scene in the book where Glaucos went to Prince Hector and said that they have to avenge King Sarpedon of the Lyceans because the so called HERO-Patroclos has killed him, this only signifies that the Trojans really wanted Patroclos dead. The Trojans, for me, I think were really glad that Hector killed Patroclos because even from the start when the Trojans were already pushing the Greeks to their ships and then suddenly Patroclos came, the wind really changed direction with the Greeks. It was like a miracle for them. They were already losing hope and then a hero comes along and had the chance to push the Trojans away from their ships. So who Trojan would not want Patroclos dead? For he is the reason why the Trojans backed down to the walls and lose their chances of finally winning this war. They had the wrong reaction if they thought it was better for them that Patroclos had died; well they didn’t realize that this was the trigger for their loss. Now the Great Achilles has a reason for sacking the great city of Ilios and kill anyone who stands in his way.
As for the Greeks, it was a GREAT LOSS for them. It was really shown in the book that they respected and loved Patroclos. They would fight for his body and bring it back to Achilles. For them Patroclos was not just a man but he was a hero that gave them hope. Bringing back his body is the only little thing they can do to pay the things Patroclos has done for them. Greatfull is the term to describe the Greeks.
B. At first, I thought he was a coward because of being like an assistant to Achilles and stuff. But then when he helped Odysseus when he was wounded was really a great deal of stewardship because it was not his obligation to help anyone, his only obligation was to send a message. Then when the Greeks were already losing, and that everyone could hear the cheering of the Trojans with that mighty confidence. Patroclos ran to Achilles and CRIED to him, there you can see the LOVE FOR COUNTRY of Patroclos because again he is not obliged to help because he has no orders but still he persuaded Achilles to let his army help the Acheans in the battle and drive the Trojans away. He really wanted to help with all he can do. That only shows that Patroclos was not just an ordinary man of Greece, but a HERO FOR GREECE. In the book Iliad, it was shown that Zeus was already in favor with the Trojans especially or specifically Prince Hector, after the mayhem that Athena and Hera cause in the first meeting between the Achaeans and Trojans. On the day where everything was in favor of the Trojans, the night was nearly coming so Zeus Cloudgatherer ordered Athena, even though she is not favor of the Trojans, to give Hector the idea to stop the war for the day in a way where he should challenge anyone of the Greeks into a fight. But, one important thing that Athena said to Hector is that it is not the time for him to die. With this, Hector had the courage to address this to everyone.

So, Hector got the attention of everyone - both the Trojans and the Achaeans – and everyone seated down. During this happening, the two gods, Apollo and Athena, were watching in the form of vultures in an oak tree. Then Hector began and said that Zeus gave him the idea to let anyone who wants to have a fight with him come forth and be the Achaean champion. But Hector did not stop there. He added that if he was to be slain by this man, he may strike Hector down, take his armor, and spoil it in any way he wants but should promise that Hector’s body should be brought back to Troy and have him fired up. But when he wins, he may strike this man and take his armor and hang it at the temple of Apollo Shootafar and sacrifice it.
Everyone was silenced with this declaration of Hector. They felt ashamed to refuse but also felt feared to accept. Because of this, Menelaus stood up and shouted for everyone to hear. He declared his willingness to fight the mighty Hector. But Agamemnon stopped him and let him realize that Hector was far stronger than him, so he never pursued it. Nine men stood up and had the courage to fight Hector. The Great Aias was the chosen one, and he was the one who had to duel the great Prince Hector. They had an oath of an equal fight. They fought with all their might but in the end no one lost and no one won. The fight was amazing yet fair and equal.

Homer, in my opinion, will not accept this scene. In the movie “Troy” the scene where Hector and Aias fought was really different compared to the scene in the book Iliad. There was no conversation at all presided by Hector. He only fought Aias because Aias was killing a lot of Trojans. There was also no Menelaos, or both parties listening to what Hector said, because Hector did not say anything at all. The worst part here is that it was shown that the Great Aias was killed in the duel. For me this was unfair because Aias was a great warrior and should be noticed, because after this part of the war, he still helped the Achaeans defend their camp and ships! We should be fair with both sides, because they were all great warriors. And that in the book, each still had a special role in the war, after this duel between Hector and Aias. The war novel, The Iliad, narrates the Great War fought by the Trojans and the Achaeans Greece. The Trojans Troupes were led by King Priam together with his sons Prince Hector and Alexandros, who is also known as Paris - the cause of all these mess because of stealing Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world from Menelaus. The Achaeans were led by king Agamemnon and his brother Menelaus.

Have you ever thought of the REAL reason why the war started on the first place? You may think that it’s because of Paris and Helen. That is partly correct, but reading through the lines in BOOK III, Menelaus and Paris had a duel for the peace of both nations. They had an oath that whoever wins may take Helen together with her wealth. Also, Troy and Greece should swear to have FRIENDSHIP and PEACE at last!

Answering the question if HERA’s attitude is perfect example of fairness or equality in battle, I do beg to disagree. For me, the war would not really start if Hera and Athena didn’t engage on the two cities. In BOOK IV it was narrated that all the gods were watching while all the mayhem was happening, then suddenly Zeus thought of teasing Hera, asking if he should make the Trojans and Achaeans fight, or should he just make them friends and have peace at last. Athena held her mouth from answering but Hera couldn’t making her answer Zeus back. She said that Zeus was a dreadful creature, that all of her TROUBLES will just go to waste, and that her PLOT to destroy PRIAM and HIS SONS will just be wasted. She also does not agree to the fact of Zeus defending Troy, giving peace for both cities. As the story narrates, HERA and ATHENA are allies with Menelaus and of the whole Achaian fleet. After all what Hera said, Zeus answered back and said to her that she can do whatever she pleases Troy, but he let her remember that it will give a grudge between them. Hera again answered to what Zeus said, saying that he could destroy any city he wants even if it’s ARGOS or SPARTA which Hera loves best and that they should give way to each other, since they are both gods and that Zeus is the lord of the immortals. But of course Hera didn’t forget about the war and told Zeus to send Athena to the battlefield for her to contrive the Trojans to break the OATH and attack the Achaians before the others do. So Athena was very glad and did what Zeus told her. There the TROJAN WAR started, all because of Hera! We can’t really say that she’s fair and equal on the battle, with her doing all of these? Impartiality was the key to stop all of this, but unfairness and favoritism came and ruined it all.
